THE VANORA.
The dimensions of the motor yacht " Vanora " are: 45ft. 6in. length 0.a., beam 11ft. and depth 3ft. 9m. (draught aft). She is built of kauri in one length on the diagonal principle, with sleeping accommodation for four people ; cushions of best scarlet repp, stuffed with best horse hair. This cabin is lit up by four ports and one skylight. Rakenettings are provided for luggage, and on each side of companion ladder a hanging wardrobe, sft. high, is fitted with shelves and Venetian shutters m door to let fresh air in. Curtains can be drawn along each berth. Behind companion ladder is a large sail locker. A double glass door in fancy coloured glass divides the cabin from the stateroom. The latter is over 9ft. long and 9ft. wide ; has comfortable seats on each side with cushioned backs, the latter fold up and form two comfortable bunks. Sleeping accommodation for four. A large table to seat ten or twelve comfortably is screwed down in the centre, and is of the folding pattern. Lockers and drawers are provided under the seats, and one cupboard fastened on each side of glass door. As in cabin aft four portholes and one skylight are fitted ;
a large swinging polished brass lamp gives ample light m the evening ; brass gimbal lamps are fitted in cabin aft. Curtains over portholes are provided. Both cabins have embossed and painted ceilings, and highly decorated beams and New Zealand wood panels. Two round bevel mirrors are fitted on each side between the ports ; cushions the same as in aft cabin, Both cabin floors are covered with linoleum and scarlet carpets. A sliding door leads from the stateroom into the passage to engmeroom ; on the port side a w c. and washing basin (both especiilly imported from Home) are closed off by another sliding door, for cleanliness' sake a grating floor is fitted m that compartment, and ample ventilation and light provided by a port and gimbal light. On the starboard side a most up-to-date pantry and cooking place is provided with ventilator through deck and a porthole to give ample light ; a special gimbal light is provided for night time. The engine room is 10ft. long by about 9 x Bft. width, has an entrance scuttle on the starboard side and iron ladder ; beneath the latter a 2 5 -gal. galvanised iron tank is fitted for fresh water, with filler on deck. A further partition gives ample room for the chain locker, the fuel tank of 515 1 gallons and sail locker. A repair bench, with vice, and a comfortable bunk for engineer is fitted on port side, with lockers underneath. Ample sitting room is offered all over the deck, especially on the quarter, where a large grating seat is fixed safely on deck. The bridge is nearly amidships, and is provided with steering wheel, reversing propeller gear and reply telegraph to engine room. Ample room is provided, and chokes fitted for a 10-ft. dingey, the latter being easily hauled up with special fittings on boom. A winch and brake is fitted forward, as also an anchor davit, ships boom and ship's ladder on starboard side. Engine room is lit up by skylight, five ports and a similar lamp as in saloon, besides an engine-room lamp. A tool
rack is fitted to partition, also a double half-door to close engine room from other parts of the ship. The forward partition is also fitted with sliding door. Deck lights are provided in after sail locker and forward locker ; a ventilator gives fresh air to engine room. The "Vanora " possesses a Home trade certificate, and possesses all and every fitting necessary for such, as foghorns, rockets, life buoys, lifebelts, Home lights, regulation lights, sea anchor, detonators, etc., etc. Has one small and two heavy anchors, and sixty fathoms of chains (tester J-m. and f-in.) besides fathoms of other ropes necessary for a ship's outfit, water breakers and buckets, etc. The boat is also fitted with two masts, and two mainsails, one staysail : all patent blocks only used, and best rope. The "Vanora " is propelled by a 30-h.p. Gardner paraffin engine, with Meissner reversing propeller and Hele-Shaw clutch. The " Vanora " is on the sale list.
