Inquests.

An inquest was held on the 16th of November last at the bridge Hotel, Kaitangata, by E. H. Carew, Esquire, R. M., and Coroner, on the body of John Morton, an engineer, aged 33 years, who, on the 13th of that month fell into the Matua branch of the river Molyneux, at Kaitangata and was drowned. Verdict: Accidentally drowned.

An inquest was held on the 24th of November last, at the White House Hotel, East Taieri, by J. E. Brown, Esquire, J. P., on the body of Joseph Baxter, alias John Ellis, a tailor and labourer, aged 28 years, who fell off a punt into the Taieri river on the 21st of that month and was drowned. Verdict: Accidentally drowned.

An inquest was held on the 7th ultimo, at the Roaring Meg Hotel, Roaring Meg, by .James Corse Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Timothy o‘Leary, .a miner, aged 37 years, who was killed on the sth, ultimo at Brown’s Flat, Roaring Meg, by a quantity of earth falling upon him while mining there. Verdict : Accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the Bth ultimo at the Taieri Ferry Store, East Taieri, by E. H. Carew Esquire, R. M., and Coroner, on the body of Henry Crompton Higgins, a draper, aged 25 years, who was drowned in the Taieri River at East Taieri on the 6th ultimo by the capsizing of a dingy. Verdict: Accidentally drowned.

An inquest was held on the 10th ultimo at the Star and Garter Hotel, Oamaru, by T. W. Parker, Esquire, R.M., and Coroner on the body of John B. McAdam, a schoolmaster, aged 40 years, who was found dead at Oamaru on the previous day. Verdict: Died from suffocation caused by a piece of meat which he was eating, sticking in his throat.

An inquest was held on the 15th ultimo at the Melbourne Boarding House, Oamaru, by T. W. Parker, Esquire, R.M., and Coroner, on the body of Thomas Thomson, a carpenter, aged 36 years, who died there on that day, from the effects of injuries sustained by falling off a horse he was riding near Oamaru on the day previous. Verdict: Died from effusion on the brain, caused by an accidental fall from a horse.

A inquest was held on the 19th ultimo at the Post Office Maungatua, by James Fulton, Esquire R.M., and Coroner, on the body of Ann Currie, a married woman, aged 55 years, who died at her residence at Maungatua on the day previous from the effects of burns received by her clothes catching fire in her house at that place on the 16th ultimo. Verdict: That deceased, on the 16th of December, when alone in her house, was accidentally burned by her clothes taking fire, from the effects of which she died on the 18th of December, 1874.

An inquest was held on the 22nd ultimo at the Hospital, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken Esquire, Coroner, on the body of John Hartley, a farmer, aged 23 years, who died there on the day previous from the effects of injuries received while trying to stop a runaway horse in Princes-street, Dunedin, on the 19th ultimo. Verdict: Died from concussion of the brain.

An inquest was held on the 22nd ultimo at the Hospital Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Alexander Syme, a labourer aged 35 years, who fell dead while at work in Martin and "Watson’s coal yard, Stuart-street, Dunedin, on the previous day. Verdict: Died by the stoppage of the action of the heart, caused by extensive disease of both lungs.

An inquest was held on the 24th ultimo, at the Geelong Hotel, Alexandra, by L. W. Simpson, Esquire, R.M. and Coroner, on the body of Frances Louisa Hood aged 19 months, who accidentally fell into a pond of water at Galloway Station, Manuherikia, on the day previous and was drowned. Verdict: Accidentally drowned.

An inquest was held on the 24th ultimo at the Hospital, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken Esquire, Coroner, on the body of George Russell, an engineer and architect, aged 44 years, who died suddenly in Doctor Crawford’s premises, Rattray-street,Dunedin, on the 22nd ultimo. Verdict: Died from apoplexy, caused by intemperate habits.

An inquest was held on the 24th ultimo, at the Sluicer’s Arms hotel, Kawarau George, by James Corse, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of George Hayes, a carrier and miner, aged 57 years, who died there on that day, from the effects of injuries sustained on the previous day on the road at Kawarau Gorge, by a barrel of beer falling off a dray and rolling over him. Verdict: accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 26th ultimo, at the Palmerston Hotel, Palmerston, by J. W. Murdoch, Esquire, R.M., and Coroner, on the body of Lawrence Cunningham, a saddler, aged 28 years, who was killed at Palmerston, on the 26th ultimo, by a fall from a horse he was riding. Verdict: accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 29th ultimo, at the Matakenui Hotel, Drybread, by W. L. Simpson, Esquire, R.M., and Coroner, on the charred remains of the body of John Owens, a miner l , aged 54 years, who was burnt to death on the night of the 27th ultimo, at Drybread, by his hut taking fire. Verdict: that deceased was accidentally burnt to death at Drybread on the night of the 27th December, 1874.

An inquest was held on the Ist instant, at the Hospital, Lawrence, by E. H. Carew, Esquire, R.M., and Coroner, on the body of Adam M‘Leod, a carrier, aged 39 years, who died there on that day, from the effects of injuries sustained by falling out of a sulky which he was driving at Spylaw, on the previous evening. Verdict: accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 31st ultimo; at deceased’s residence, Eden dale, Mataura, by John Turnbull, Esquire, R.M., and Coroner, on the body of John Weir, a labourer, aged 60 years, who was killed at Edendale on the day previous, by falling from a roller while at work in a paddock there. Verdict : accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 7th instant, at the Court House, Port Chalmers, by David o‘Donoghue, Es uire, Coroner, on the body of George Aldridge, a fisherman, aged 35 years, who died suddenly at Taylor’s Point, Lower Harbou r, Port Chalmers, on the sth instant. Verdict: “ That on or about the stn of January, 1875, George Aldridge came to his death by disease of the brain brought on by excessive drinking, and accelerated by a blow upon the temple, but how such blow was inflicted, there is no evidence to shew.” Thomas Bisset is in custody, charged with the murder of deceased.
