An inquest was held on the 13th ultimo, at the

Harp of Erin Hotel, Queenstown, by R. Beetham, * Esquire, R.M. and Coroner, on the body of William Torr, a miner, aged 27 years, who, while trying to cross the Shotover river on the fluming of the water race of the Nugget Eeef Crushing Mill, on the Gth ultimo, fell into the river and was drowned. Verdict, accidentally drowned.

An inquest was held on the 24th ultimo, at the Railway Hotel, Campbelltown, by Henry M'Culloch, Esquire, R.M. and Coroner, on the body of Ebenezer Henry Nelson, a seaman, aged 37 years, who was killed on that day on board the ship May Queen, in Bluff harbour, by a bale of wool falling upon him. Verdict, accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 24th ultimo, at the Wyndham Hotel, Wyndham, by J. A. R. Menzies, Esquire, J.P. and Coroner, on the body of Jonathan Jamieson, a farmer, aged 23 years, who was drowned while bathing in the Wyndham river, on the 22nd ultimo. Verdict accordingly.

Beetham, Esquire, E.M. and Coroner, on the body of William M'Grath, aged 2| years, who was found drowned in a well near his parents’ residence, at the Shotover Bridge, on that day. An inquest was held on the 29th ultimo at the Court House, Port Chalmers, by David O’Donoghue, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of James Walker, a seaman, aged 33 years, who died suddenly in the Police Lock-up, at Port Chalmers, on the night previous. Verdict: That deceased died from disease of the heart, induced by rheumatism and accelerated by the use of alcoholic stimulants.

An inquest was held on the 31st ultimo, at the residence of Adam Begg, Anderson’s Bay, by T. M. Hocken, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Charles Peter Begg, a surveyor, aged 21 years, who was drowned at the Ocean Beach, Anderson’s Bay, on the day previous, while bathing there. Verdict: Accidentally drowned.

An inquest was held on the 9th instant at the West Taieri Hotel, Outram, by T. M. Hocken, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Henry Kixon, a farm servant, aged 18 years, who was drowned in the Taieri river, at West Taieri, on the 4th instant, while fording the river on horse-back. Verdict: Accidentally drowned.

An inquest was held on the 13th instant, at the Hospital, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Ellen Fitzgerald, a laundress, aged 39 years, who was found dead in her house in George street, Dunedin, on the 11th instant. Verdict: Died of convulsions brought on by intemperance.

An inquest was held on the 7th instant, at the Royal Hotel, Walker-street, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Alexander Afflick, a ploughman, aged 40 years, who died suddenly in Walker-street, Dunedin, on the day previous. Verdict: Died from concussion of the brain,

caused by falling on the pavement in Walker-street, _ while in a delicate state of health. v

Carew, Esquire, R.M. and Coroner, on the body of William Thomas Thornton, a miner, aged 33 years, who was found dead at his mining claim in Quartz-reef Gully, Round Hill, Waitahuna, on the day previous. Verdict : That deceased was found dead in Quartz-reef Gully, on the 16th of January, 1874, such death being caused by dislocation of the neck, but how such dislocation was caused, there is not sufficient evidence to show.

An inquest was held on the 20th instant, at Waipori, by E. 11. Carew, Esquire, R.M. and Coroner, on the body of John Vivian, a miner, aged 42 years, who was killed by a mass of earth falling upon him while working in his claim at Stoney Creek, Waipori, on the 18th instant. Verdict: Accidentally killed. An inquest was held on the 25th instant, at the Star and Garter Hotel, Oamaru, by George Sumpter, Esquire, J.P. and Acting Coroner, on the body of Thomas Essex, a railway labourer, aged 26 years, who was killed while at work in a railway tunnel, near Oamaru, on the day previous, by a mass of earth falling upon him. Verdict: Accidentally killed.
