Property Stolen.

Stolen, between the 25th and 27th ultimo, from a box which was left outside the store of Matheson Bros., Rattray street, Dunedin, a black cloth frock coat, made * to button in front, pocket in left breast,, velvet collar, small tear on left shoulder which has been repaired ; one brown double-breasted overcoat with velvet collar, our pockets outside and one inside, mark on both

sleeves where they had been lengthened about half an inch, ; lined with twilled silk one pair black cloth trousers; one black and white cotton , shirt; and one red and white woollen comforter with tassel on one end, the property, of Morris D. R. Scanlan. Value, £ls. Identifiable.

Stolen, on the 2nd instant from the Forbury Race Course, near Dunedin, a pair of light strapped jockey boots, without tops, the property of William M‘Kay. Value, £3 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen, on the 21st ultimo, from Maitland street, Dunedin, a black mare, aged, branded TP (conjoined) on near shoulder, and 68 on near ribs, the property of Thomas Robinson and Co. Identifiable.

Lost or stolen, on the 6th instant, from the person of Thomas Taylor, on board the steamer Golden Age, between Port Chalmers and Dunedin, a cheque for £l9 ss.' dated the sth December, 1872, drawn by John McLean in favour of Thomas Taylor, the word citizen written under McLean’s name. - The cheque was' on the Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, and drawn on a Bank of Otago form with the word Otago erased and New Zealand written over it.

Stolen, on .the 21st instant, from the window of the residence of John Howie, Bond street, Dunedin, two geranium flower pots, containing two geraniums, one with pink blossom and dark circle on leaves, the other a scarlet blossom. Value, 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen, on the 14th instant, at Naseby, a black vest, wanting two buttons, with a double-cased silver lev4r watch in pocket, No. 37,159, Rotherham, London, maker, steel Albert guard, with common seal and six-

pence attached, the property of John Allison. Value, £lO. Identifiable.

Stolen, about the 3rd instant, from Shag Valley,, a strawberry cow, branded WP reversed on rump, with calf at foot, and a one year old red heifer, the property of John Graham. Identifiable. It is supposed that these cattle may be in a mob of about 400 head, which were driven from Shag Valley, on the 4th instant, by John Muir, to his farm at Waikava, Southland District.

Stolen, during the first week in October last, from the New Market Hotel, Balclutha, a gold Albert chain, single curb-link pattern, with a gold horse shoe locket, containing a few gray hairs attached, the property of William Pollock. Value, £3 i Os. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Frederick Hook, who was employed as cook in the hotel, when the articles were stolen, and in whose possession a chain answering the description of the one stolen was seen. He is an Englishman, a cook, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair. He is supposed to have gone towards Mataura. See Police Gazette 1872, page 49.

Stolen, on the 6th instant, from .the shop of David Dowell, jeweller, Tokomairiro, a flat gold finger ring, narrow in front and widening towards the back, three diamonds set in it. Value, 2us. Identifiable. A Chinaman of the following description suspected, who was in Dowell’s shop examining jewellery, and who had the stolen ring in his possession, which was soon afterwards missed. He is low sized, round faced, remarkable broad front teeth, dressed in dark trousers, striped Crimean shirt, and red coloured sash.

Stolen, on the 29th ultimo, from the dwelling of Charles Strong, Port Chalmers, a box 6x6 inches, and 14 inches long, painted drab colour, three compartments with the names Annie, George, and James on each, with a slit on the top in each for the receipt of money, and supposed to contain about £3 in silver, from three-penny coins to half-crowns. Box identifiable.

Stolen on the 27th ultimo, at Clyde, a silver Geneva hunting watch, No. 16,174, with common steel Albert guard, and brass key attached, the property of William Duffy. Value, £3. Identifiable.
