HIGHWAY ROBBERY UNDER ARMS.
On the 10th of February, 1864, as Julius Heyne, a hawker, was proceeding on the road from Schlater’s Accommodation-house towards the Waikato River, and when about two miles from the former, he was stopped by two young men, armed with pistols, which they presented at him and demanded his money. He being unable to defend himself, they took from his person two sovereigns, an order (or £2O, and a silver hunting watch, and from his packs several articles of jewellery. They then tied his hands with flax, put one of the packs under his head, then tied his feet, and secured the second pack to them to prevent his pursuing them. He was, however, enabled after
some time to extricate himself, and S afterformation to the Police, who shortly afterwards succeeded in apprehending 1 who proved to be Thomas Langham and TkoJas Robson. They stand committed for trial at the next Criminal Sessions Dunedin. These men were tried for horse stealing at the Supreme Court, Dunedin Criminal Sittings, in June, 1863, and sentenced to one month s imprisonment with hard labour, .and to be flogged. -
