Warrant issued by the Oamaru Bench for the apprehension of John Penny, charged with obtaining money by false pretences on

the 22nd of June instant from James Mitchell, barman at the Oamaru Hotel, Oamaru. About 27 years of age, sft. 6 or 7 in. high, dark complexion, round features', whiskers and moustache. Dressed in grey suit and Scotch cap, speaks broad Scotch. Supposed will make his way to Dunedin or KawarauMunction.

Stolen on the sth of July instant, from the bedroom of Margaret Smith, Manuherikia, a gold geneva watch, number unknown; a gold guard chain snake pattern ; : a gold brooch with white stone ; and a gold earring,) Identifiable. v : ; rid nesj££ ••wswtljjß’'.

Stolen on the 30th of June last, from the the trousers pocket of Dennis Kennedy, while asleep at the Shamrock Hotel, Queenstown, a purse containing a £SO note, No. 78, of the Bank of New Zealand or New South Wales.

Escaped from the custody of the warder of Lyttelton Gaol at 10 a.m. on the 30th of June last, while working in the hard labour gang, two men, both in prison dress:—lst. James Proctor, 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, fair hair, inclined to curl, very little beard, rather high cheek hones, slightly stooped in shoulders, a native of Ireland, a cooper by trade, undergoing a sentence of six. months for felony, supposed he will make for a house kept by a person named Thomas Proctor between Timaru and Oamaru, or may try to get to Sydney by some steamer. 2nd. William Gamble, about 35 years old, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, dark whiskers and moustache, square built was awaiting his trial for felony.

Stolen between the hours of 9 a.m. ,the 3rd, and 7 a.m. the 4th July, 1863, from the person of Richard Morris, at the Arrow River, £35 in £5 notes of the Bank of N.S.W., they were new notes and numbered consecutively from 11561.

Stolen on the 9th of July instant, from Dunedin Jetty, to which it was moored, a flat-bottomed boat,’ with paddle wheels which will ship and unship, 13 or 14 feet long, 2 feet 6 inches to 3 feet wide, 3 keels ; boat painted green, paddles red; the property of Mr. Baker, Chemist, Frederick-street, North Dunedin. Supposed to have been taken up the country towards the Dunstan.

Stolen on the night of the 13th of July instant, from the vacant piece ot ground at the side of Riordan’s Hotel, Jetty-street, the property of Mr. Moses Fink, provision merchant, Jetty-street, Dunedin,- a two-wheeled truck, with blue sides, open at each end, red w’heels about 3 feet high, pole with cross bar in front.

Stolen on the 19th of July instant, from the person of Michael Deviney,-. servant at Bellevue "■ Boarding Y House, Rattray-street, while in a store in Rattray-street, a silver mounted meerchaum pipe, by a man about 46 years old, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, hollow cheeks, and sunken upper lip, red .whiskers, and beard under chin ; dressed in monkey jacket, moleskin trousers, and

wide.-awake hat, had - the appearance of l an old hand;, frequents ’ the bars of the Shakespeare and Shamrock Hotels, Dunedin.

Stolen on the 17th of July instant, from the cabin of the British ship Electric, lying at Port Chalmers, the property of the Captain, Andrew Young Marshall, a gold lever watch, double case, compensation balance, second hand works over minute hand, makers, Frodsham and Keene, Liverpool, number 6281 ; also, a single barrel rifled pistol, maker, Bennett, Liverpool.

Stolen on the 13th of June instant, from the bed room of Mrs. Gribbin, residing at Cooper’s Family Hotel, Octagon, Dunedin, the following articles, viz.: a small mahogany box, 6 or 7in. long, 4in. wide, and 4in. deep, containing one £5 and two or three £1 notes; a lady’s large gold cable chain, with bunch of seals attachedon one of them a Griffin’s head on a red stone, another a pair of scissors, with motto, “We part to meet again 1 fancy gold watch key, set with turquoises on each side; „ 1 small watch key, with red stone on., one side, and white stone on the other; 1 gold; locket in shape of a cockle shell; 1 lady’s large , sized gold broocn, set with 23 or 24 small diamonds round the edge, light hair in centre (plaited) 1 ditto, ditto, with white stone, set in chased frame; 1 small ditto, ditto, with portrait of a gentleman painted on ivory, a « hall crack on side of ivory; 1 small ditto, ’ditto,'with cornelian stone, with dark hair, and. two small turquoise stones; 1 silver . pencil-case 3 small nuggets of gold ; 2 ladies’' gold rings—one' half hoop with three dark red stones and two blue ditto, the other with four or five very small stones surrounding a pearl;' two pairs gold sleeve links —one set with cornelian stones : all identifiable. James Dunn arrested on suspicion, has been discharged. He is now in ihe Canterbury Province, where it is expected he will endeavour to sell the property above described.

Warrant issued by the Tuapeka Bench for the : apprehension of a man, name unknown, supposed to be Charles Davis, for stealing, on the Bth of July instant, from the tent of rcEthtfard-Merry,! Halfway House between- ” Wetherstone’s and Waitahuna, the following, : his property, viz., 1 pair blue blankets, 1 tin billy, 1 knife, and a quantity of rations, part of which are recovered. Description—24 0r.25 years old, 5 feet • 7 inches, high, rather stout, fair complexion, dark hair inclined to curl, dark eyes, small downy moustache. Dresse in light colored dirty tweed cap, blue monkey jacket, old brown cloth trousers, and wellington boots, worn inside. Supposed to be in Dunedin.

Warrant issued by the Beechworth - Bench, i Victoria,, for • the- apprehension, of James ! Noonan, charged with stealing, on .or about : the 26th of January- last, at Beechworth, Victoria, one hogshead of ■ ale, value i £7, the f property; of - Henry 'Edwards,; Beechworth,', ! : brewer. < Description—, 35 years old;,' 5 feet TO inches high, medium-build,: full i beard r•£6 f fa 1 ; reddish color,, a carrier. Supposed to p' y have come to Dunedin. Warrant now lies at r the Detective Office, Dunedin.
