A euchre party in aid of 'the South' Dunediri; stall in connection with the coming ear>nival 'will be held in St. Patrick's School- :? room, South Duiicdin, on next Tuesday eveni / ing, the 30th inst., commencing. at 7.45. After / the card games, a dance is to be held, supper ,/•:' being provided. Tickets for the euchre party W may- be obtained on payment of 1 /6 - at the doors; an. extra charge' of 1/- for men and - '/■'..6d for ladies is to' be made for the dancer, The promoters have a reputation for arrang- / ing most enjoyable functions, hence patrons - ■• are. assured ,of a pleasant evening. t : The quarterly general Communion of the Hibernian Society was held at the-8.30 a.m. Mass at the Sacred Heart Church, North- . east Valley, on Sunday. The attendance was •v one' of the -largest, of Hibernians that has yet '' assembled at the Valley, arid .the sight presented was a -edifying one. , After the j, Mass the members were, entertained to break- ! fast by the Children' of Mary of the district. Hibernians - on the /;' splendid gathering, some haying come from a [//great distance. Each year saw progress; this i/vv year > was -unique, in that it was the first year /r the members had at their breakfast a, repre- ■:]■: sentative of the.ladies', branch. '?■/ .' . /?■• The -members of St.- J6seph!s\LadieS'«Club:/ have arranged a /'.'chocolate/ evening," / to : assist in furnishing their stall at the carnival/. soon to be held in the interests of the Dominican Nuns.' The function, which .is to be held at/ St. Joseph's Hall •on Wednesday,. July 1, will 'include a "500" tournament, a •short musical programme, and supper. /■..' ■-:f X- ST, Josephs LADIES' CLUB. , t There was a large attendance/of members at the weekly meeting of. St. Josephs Ladies' Club/held.: at" St. Joseph's Hall, on , ; last Wednesday, the occasion being a "musical evening," tendered to Hey. Father Spillane on his relinquishing the duties of spiritual director to the club, a position he has filled during , the past few. years. Rev. Dr. O'Neill and , Rev. ; Father .Tylee.; accompanied the guest of the. evening. An enjoyable pro- : i gramme, was contributed by. the following Miss K. Whelan (pianoforte solo); Misses 0. 'Forsyth, B. Oallien, F. .Meade, M. Bills,-A. ~ Vallis, and Rev:- Dr. O'Neill (songs) •' Misses . A. .Holey and M. Gallagher (recitations); Misses R./'Malaghan and K. McAlisteV> (pianoforte duet). Misses X. Yarney and B. Meade were accompanists. At the,request of the club members Father.; read a nicely prepared address, expressive of their . deep appreciation of /the services rendered. by Father. Spillane as chaplain, and gratitude for much valued help and advice given : hy him. He then, presented .the, guest of. the; evening with a memento of his'associatioiis .. with the club, 'and/conveyed the best wishes of all for Father Spillane's success in all his future undertakings. In reply, Father Spil- - lane expressed his gratitude/for the kindly sentiments conveyed in the address. , The gift the members of the club had made him, would be a further reminder' of the five / pleasant years he had spent among the. people ! of Dunedinnot the least pleasing of his duties were 'those exercised in the interests of the club, ' y Dainty refreshments were ;. handed round, and those^ who had provided the programme were heartily thanked, for the delightful- treat 'afforded the assemblage.
