In the course of. an address suitable to the occa- ; • sion his congratulated .the people of Frankton upon the success of their efforts, . ;*describing the •'buildings as equal to any- / thing in the Dominion. * ; " • :■ To cope with the ever growing - roll, ;. a new ■, .building c has /been erected,' by voluntary la- - bor /as .an annexe.to the; Mar ist- Brothers' .;' School in Hamilton. The working "bee" which toiled each > Saturday afternoon to /-, complete the structure received a temporary set-back ' when ; a recent gale demolished the . frame-work. However, the , damage was t quickly remedied, .and the building - now j- • stands secure, . a ; monument 'to > the unselfish parishioners who so freely gave of their time , - in the' cause of 'Catholic - Education: x " '< ;.' ;,'■ The weekly euchre parties held as a' means ,'• of- raising 'funds for the. support of Hamil- ' ton's free Catholic, schools, are proving an . even greater success this year than ever before. The attendances are large : every «| S \ week, 60 and even 80 players. being no un- ( common number. \. \ -\ '• - * The Marist Brothers' School is again well ,i to the fore in the Hamilton- primary schools , Rugby competition. Both in the A grade and in the light-weight grade "they have . gone through, all their matches ~ without a,/! ..single defeat. ', ' *'• A sale of work is being held this week in/s aid of the 'church and . school funds, and the /^indications^ are that the function will prove an- unqualified success. , v

Social at Kurow . (From a' correspondent.) A ; highly- successful euchre-party and" social was held iii 'the Kurow hall recently for thel purpose of creating a,; fund to provide requi- ~ y sites for - the Catholic church. Rev.; Father •/ Ardagh, our worthy priest, was present and ; explained the'rules of the game to 100 play- v ers. Nine games were played, and consider- ; ' able interest; was manifest, especially among ■< the ladies, as the prizes offered were valuable. The ladies' prize'was Avon by Mrs. as.; Cur- - - ran; gents' by Mr. M. Mulvena; the run- j •ncrs-up prizes by Mr. and Mrs. Gardner; and the least number of games by Mrs. Mercer, and Mr. Cochrane. A very nice supper was then partaken of, after which a short ' musical programme was rendered; J! Songs* ;. contributed Miss Ayson, Miss Norah - Lawlor, and Mr. J. Curran, and a step-dance ;/ by Miss N. Appleby. Dancing was then preceeded with, and was continued until 3 a.m. " The arrangements were well made and special credit is due to Mrs. M. Lawlor for the zealous and energetic manner in which she car- ■■■• : ried out' the duties of secretary. •?,; Mr. J. s >■' Curran was chairman. Several people were >.": so pleased with the function that they have » asked for another euchre party in the -near: r l future. From a financial point of view the I .'result is most gratifying to our worthy pastor "and the Catholic people, -the sum of £2l being collected clear of all expenses.
