The usual fortnightly Catholic social and euchre party, was hold on Thursday, when an enjoyable evening’s amusement resulted, '''file prizes .for the euchre were won by Mrs. v Hunt and Miss Morris, and Mr. Chapman ( Sand Mr. Fagan. Father Herring has effected considerable im- ; provements to the school grounds in, the way of levelling, rolling, and asphalting, as well as the erection of shelter sheds, which will no doubt bo greatly appreciated by the children during the winter months. ‘ The death of an old resident, in the person of Mrs. Mary Dunne, occurred at her residence on May 1. The deceased was a native of Co. Cork, Ireland, and 65 years of age. She had resided in Capleston for the last 40 years, where her husband predeceased her some 20 years ago. She is survived by one son (William) and four daughters Mrs. Barry •, Victoria), Mrs. Raleigh (Cobden), Mrs. Heffernan (Greymouth), and Miss Dunn (Reef ton) Rev. Father Herring officiated at the interment in the Capleston Cemetery. —R.I.P. The marriage of Mr. J. B. Diseaciati and Miss Scarlett was solemnised in Christchurch on May 22. Rev. Father Gilbert, S.J.,- has been on a short visit to Rev. Father Herring. On Anzac Day Father Herring celebrated a Requiem Mass for the soldiers who fell in the Great War. There was a large congregation. Tim incidental music was effectively rendered by the choir. At the close of the Mass the “Dead March” from “Saul” was played by the organist (Mrs. J. B. Berti). Brother Eusebius, of Christchurch, who is a brother of Sister Mary Gonzaga, of the local Convent of Mercy, spent a few days’ in Reef ton last week.
