TIMARU
(From our own Correspondent.) November 28. The annual parish picnic will again bo held at Victoria Park, Temnka, on December 13. A collection will be taken up at the church doors to defray cost of fares, refreshments, and prizes for the children. A strong committee, with Mr. Con ion as president and Mr. T. M. Cotter, secretary, has been elected to carry out the arrangements. There was a crowded attendance at the Catholic Girls’ School, Craigie Avenue, on the 20th inst., when a very enjoyable programme was submitted by the pupils. After the two bright opening choruses, “As I Went O’er the Paddock” and “Waken Lords and Ladies Gay,” a very pretty fairy tale entitled “Snowdrop and the Seven Dwarfs” was well enacted by a number of the children. As a piano solo, Beethoven’s “Ap assionata” was played with splendid expression by Miss Sullivan, and was warmly received. A chorus number, “The Toy Balloon,” and a very dainty folk dance, gracefully executed, concluded the first portion of the programme. A very devotional number which opened the second half was “Glory to God,” rendered . with suitable expression. A very acceptable item was Chopin’s “Tarantelle,” exquisitely placed by Miss P. Lynch. A cantata, “The White Garland,” very appropriate for juvenile performers, was well delivered by the children, as was a national dance ,and a recitation entitled “Unawares.” A beautiful tableau, “The Coming of the Magi,” concluded an entertainment of . outstanding merit, which reflected great credit on the teaching staff and all concerned • A-0
