(From our own correspondent.) November 12. ' At the evening devotions there was a large congregation, when Father Hurley delivered a discourse on Faithhealing and miracles. The preacher dealt with the subject in an able manner, and thoroughly refuted many of the statements made by so-called faith-healers. v About 60 Hibernians approached the Holy Table at the 7.30 Mass yesterday. The Mass was celebrated by the chaplain, Rev, Father Hurley, S.M., who congratulated the branch on the good muster, and the manifestation of Faith. He outlined 'the benefits to bo derived from membership, and also strongly exhorted the young men of the parish (who have not yet joined) to become members of this excellent society. A new feature has just been added to- the parochial activities in the shape of j a cinematograph machine. It is a most up-to-date instrument, in fact the only one of its kind in the Dominion, the chief features being its portability; capable of showing from a small batteryT* as well as from ordinary current, and the possibility of stopping the film anywhere, and projecting as from a lantern. This makes the machine very useful for educational purposes and lectures, for which it will be mostly used. Arrangements may be made shortly for a steady supply of films of Catholic interest, with which the parishioners will be able to spend many interesting and profitable evenings. As soon as a number of parishes secure a cinematograph machine, a circle can be formed to display the pictures throughout the Dominion. The Timaru Post lately gaveNi full description of tho “Old People’s Home’- 1 -in Otipua Road, and paid the follow-ing-glowing tribute to the master and matron: “The present master and matron of the Home (Mr. and Mrs. F. Mulvihill) have now been in charge for several years, and during their occupancy of the position have been responsible for bringing about numerous improvements. The inmates, one and all, speak in enthusiastic terms of the genial disposition of Mr. and Mrs. Mulvihill, and declare that they are both the personification of ‘kindness and thoughtfulness: This is a high tribute, for it must be remembered that the inmates are representative of .all classes of pdbple formerly pursuing various paths of activity: The unanimity with which they applaud the management and the control of the Home is eloquent testimony to the tact, kindly solicitation, and regard for their comfort and welfare displayed at all times by the Master and Matron.” . v.-.
