ASHBURTON NOTES
(From our own correspondent.) * _ October 23. Mr, E. J. Kelleher was the recipient of a handsome set of Doulton jugs at Wednesday evening’s annual meeting of the Catholic Club, from., the Hibernian Society (of which he is president), and the Catholic Club. Various speakers made eulogistic references to Mr. Kelleher, who suitably replied. Mr. Kelleher and family are to reside in Port Chalmers. The Hibernian Society have lost another valued member in the person of Mr. A. Brownie, who has left New Zealand to reside in Melbourne. Mr. Brownie has for many years past acted as manager of Gouths Ltd., of this r town, and will be missed in the various Catholic societies. All join in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Brownie and family happiness and prosperity. At the annual meeting of the . Ashburton Catholic Club, held on Wednesday evening, the 17th inst., the following off ice-bearers were elected for the ensuing year: patron, Very Rev. Dean J. J. O’Donnell; president, Mr. Wm, Bryant; , vice-president, Mr. Val Cullen; secretary, Mr. W. Rapley; ,S treasurer, Mr. H. Lennon; librarian, Mr. H. Hewson; * executive, Messrs. T. M. Brophy, T. Purcell, D. Fitz-. gerald, L. Ryan, and F. Lennon; auditors, Messrs. E. J. O’Brien and E. McSherry. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the outgoing president and secretary (Messrs. L. T. J. Ryan and'F.
