Celtic Club, Palmerston North
Visitors and fresh residents to Palmerston North have noticed a lack of organisation of the men of St. Patrick's parish, Palmerston North (writes a correspondent). This difficulty has been overcome by the calling together of the men and boys of the parish, when the Rev. Father Doherty impressed the need of organising in some way that will supply all with a useful means of spending their leisure hours. It was then decided to form a social club to be known as the '"Celtic Club," the objects of which are to promote social welfare and help in all work in the parish. The following office-bearers were then elected: —Patron, Mr. P. F. O'Connor; president, Mr. W. Brady; vice-presi-dents, Rev. Fathers McManus and Doherty. (spiritual director), Messrs. E. C. Trehey, A. M. Ongley," M. O'Reilly, W. Devine, and F. Comerford; secretary, Mr. J. Owen treasurer, Mr. R. Deidrick; committee, Messrs. J. O'Sullivan, S. Rogers, H. Rogers, J. McSweeney, J. Beaven, D. Stewart, and W. Bourke. In conjunction with the social side of the club the members hope to take a prominent part in the athletic field, and it is confidently expected that the Green-and-Black (the club's colors.) will be as prominent as are other Catholic bodies throughout New Zealand. Visitors to Palmerston North are cordially invited to make themselves known,, and the club will be only too pleased to give them all the assistance and make their stay in Palmerston as enjoyable as possible. The first public function of the club is to take the 'form of a euchre party and dance in the Foresters' Hall on August 31. -,v ;
