This translation of a book the merits of which have been recognised for three centuries will be welcome to those who love the soundness and clearness and- depth of many of the old spiritual writers. It is a book for. religious, and it contains the wise spiritual counsel of a director after the heart of St. Francis de Sales. The authoress of this interesting book, like her husband who has recently become editor of the. Tablet (London) can write. And in this, the first book we have seen by her, she has chosen a fine subject, i.e., the activities of Camillus de Lellis as saint, soldier, and nurse. It will be news to most people that the saint was the real founder of the Red Cross, and Mrs. Oldmeadows has in her book laid a beautiful wreath on the shrine of this patron saint of the sick and wounded.
