Marists Win C.R.U Championship

On Saturday, before a crowd of between 12,000 and 13,000, Marists beat Merivale in the final of the Canterbury Rugby Union championship by 6 points to 3. It had rained all the week, and the ground resembled a quagmire. Marists had the better of the first spell, in which tries were scored by D. McCormick after a fine individual effort, and by J. C. Mullins, as the outcome of a determined dash after a pretty piece of.passing. Both kicks failed. In the second spell Merivale were knocking at the door practically all the way through, but only once did they penetrate the defence, when Dpreen scored after a neat passing bout. Marists have now won the premiership five years in succession.
