Ladies of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul
SACRED HEART CONFRATERNITY, NORTH-EAST * ' VALLEY. The thirteenth annual meeting of the above confraternity was held in the Sacred Heart Schoolroom, Northeast Valley, on Tuesday evening week, Rev. Father Foley, Adm. (spiritual director) presiding over a good attendance of members. The periodical report read by the secretary (Miss Murphy) gave the numerical strength of the confraternity as 9 active and 70 honorary members. Twenty-one meetings had been held during the years with an average attendance of 7 members. Two hundred visits to the sick and poor had been made by the president and vice-president. Tn a general summary of the work-done it is shown that -•"> deserving cases had been relieved, 36 orders for coal, and 42 for groceries were issued, 7 pairs of new and 17 pairs of second-hand boots and shoes, 1 pair new blankets, 101 new and 160 second-hand garments were distributed. Sixty parcels of second-hand garments and footwear were received. Monetary receipts (including £2 subscribed by the children of the Sacred Heart School and os by Miss Swan for flood relief) amounted to £l9 5s Id. The thanks of the confraternity are recorded to the clergy, honorary members, and friends for much valued assistance; also well-merited appreciation of the splendid services rendered by the president, who only missed two meetings, during her lengthy term of office extending over 14 years. After explaining the new order of procedure in regard to the charitable organisation of ladies consequent on the resumplinn and extension of the men’s conferences of the St, Vincent de Paul Society, Rev. Father Foley very warmly complimented the members of the heretofore conference of ladies on the excellence of their past administration of their resources, and congratulated them on the extent and far-reaching beneficial results of their activities during the past 14 years. The work they had been engaged in would continue to call for their attention, and he felt sure the change from their former title to that more appropriate one by which they would henceforth be known would lead to an increase rather than any lessening in their zeal and devotion to God’s poor. Following are the office-bearers:President, Mrs. J. Hunger ford; vice-presi-dent, Mrs. W. Duffy; secretary, Miss Murphy; wardrobekeeper, Miss Connor. — ,
