ARCHDIOCESE OF WELLINGTON
(From our own correspondent.) July 27. At the conclusion of the last meeting of the men’s, branch of the Sacred Heart Society of St. Joseph’s parish, most of the members adjourned to the hall, where a very interesting and instructive lecture was given by Rev. Father Gondringer, on his recent travels in Europe. • AL Jean Gcrardy, the noted musician, who is at present on tour through the Dominion, very kindly visited St. Clary’s Convent of Mercy and entertained the Sisters with a delightful programme of music. His Grace Archbishop O’Shea is at present on an episcopal visitation of the Hawke’s Bay portion of the archdiocese. His (trace will be absent from Wellington for about three weeks. The total realised by this year’s appeal for funds to assist the Home' of Compassion, Island Bay, amounted to .£9Bo (is 2d, and this amount, together with a statement ot account audited by .Mr. James Mclntosh, public accountant, has been forwarded to Mother Aubert. A willing band of hard-working ladies swelled the street day proceeds with their collection boxes and the sale of roses. The executive of the committee were Airs. Gleeson (secretary), .Miss Lucy, Wynne (treasurer), and Air. J. J. McGrath (chairman). The committee desires to thank the press and all helpers and donors to the fund, as well as Messrs. Alunt, Cotterill and Co., carriers/ T. A. Wells. Ltd., painters, and James Mclntosh, public accountant, for services rendered. r l he quarterly general meeting of the Wellington conference's of the St. Vincent de Paul Society was held in St. Patrick s Church-Schoolroom, Kilbirnie, on Sunday, July 22. Bro. J. A. Scott presided, and there were present Rev. Fathers Murphy and O’Donnell, and a large number of members and those interested in the works of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Apologies for non-attendance wen received from his Grace Archbishop O’Shea, Rev. Fathers Spillane and Connolly. Written reports from St. Alary’s, Sacred Heart, St. Patrick’s College, Kilbirnie, and St. Joseph’s conferences were received and read, all showing satisfactory progress for the past quarter, especially St. Joseph’s. The chairman gave a brief outline of the works, of the society that are carried out by the members. The usual business, of the society was then proceeded with, at the conclusion of which Rev. Father Murphy congratulated the members on the excellent work carried out by them during the past quarter. 1 AM
