My dear Little People, Yon will be thinking I have been washed away or drowned in the flood, but here I am quite safe and sound. Poor old Dunedin, what a mess You should have seen it. Up in the North Island they had it pretty badly, too, I can tell you. We won’t be short of water for a while now, will ■Ave? I must not write too long a letter, as we have a big batch to put through to-day. Anne. cl;. Dear Anne, — This is my first letter to you and I hope to see my name in the Tablet as I saw one of my friends there not long ago. I am thirteen years old, my birthday is on the 13th August, I was born in 1909. I go to the Bluff Convent. We have a nice brick school which is very cosy in cold weather. I will write again soon. Percy is younger than I am and George is a big hov who works in town. I have four sisters, two arc left school, 1 am the voungest girl. 1 -have a great many cousins in South Canterbury and the North Island; a, good number of my cousins arc mins. When I am big perhaps I shall be a teacher like my cousins and go up to the North Island to instruct the little Maori boys and girls. Dear Anno,- —This is mv first letter to you. T am ten in Standard two. I have three sisters and a brother. My sister is eight in Standard 0119. I never went for a holiday this year. We went to Wellington for our holiday and I saw the sea for the first time. We had a lovely time batheing in the water. Your new friend— Dorothy Loughnan, Taihape. 'A (Welcome, Dorothea. I go to the Convent school: I am 12 years old and in the sth std. I have four brothers and three sisters. 1 have two brothers “twins.” We have six cows. I milk two every night and one in the morning sometimes. 1 have a nice little pony named Swanee. I shall conclude bv wishing you every success in the future. Your loving friend —Monica Langford. I wonder if you are having the same weather as we are. up in Dunedin. I am having a holiday to-morrow from school, so I will not heed to go to bed early, to-night. Dear Anne, —I am very glad there is a children’s page in the Tablet. I like to look at poetry. I am eight years of age. I go to a Public school as there is no Catholic school but we have a nice little church which in it we have mass every Sunday. At School I am the Second Std. We do not have far to go to school for we are next door. Before I go to school I hav to take some milk to people and also at night again. I have not been going round with them last week, for I have been ill. We had 125 chickens and some of them died. Before New Year we used to get 40 eggs aday. I have 5 sisters and three brothers so there are nine in the family with me. It is getting near tea time so I must draw this letter to a close. Every Thursday I was waiting for the post boy to come round. I am writing to tell you we have had a lovely summer no here, and such a number of strangers came up for a. holiday, of course Hampden would not be much without the beach we have a lovely beach, we get cat’s eyes and all kinds of pretty shells. During the summer nearly every family were short of water they had to pay for the carting of water, the ground is still very dry, we are lining lovely weather for the harvesters, they are all busy thrashing their corn. T heard ii is practically always raining in Dunedin, of course it is such a horrid place, especially for illness. My sister came up to see me, she stays with Airs. Casev and she likes her very much her name is Cissie: mv other sisters name is Molly, she is in Invercargill. 'Well. I must close now. Hoping this letter will receive you. Easter holidays begin this week I hone the weather will he fine: it has peen pretty stormy lately; hen we return to school we shall know'who got the highest marks for the term. I am going to try to get the most merits in mv exercise in April. Next time I hone to write a better letter. ' I'have t.iree sisters the eldest one, who is nearly 18 years old is boarding at St. Dominic's College and mv second sister’ who is not well is at home, but we hope she will soon be veil again. Kathleen, who is only 10. is at home also, but we are going boarding at the convent some day too We have our wee cousin stopping here and his name is Kevin Reginald We have a cat and his name is “Jumbo” and he is not a bad old thing but I think he was horn tired as he is even too lazy to eat, but somehow lie finds enough energy to fight smaller kittens than himself.
