St. Joseph's Branch, H.A.C.B. Society, Dunedin

The St. Joseph's branch H.A.C.B.S. held their fortnightly meeting in St. Joseph's Hall on Tuesday evening at 7.30 p.m. Bro. P. Walsh presided. The president in his opening remarks said that this was a red letter day for the society, as his Lordship Dr. Whyte, Bishop of Dunedin, was to be initiated into the society that evening. On his Lordship's arrival, the president welcomed him on behalf of tho society. Bro. J. J. Marlow (District Deputy) then performed the initiation ceremony. He then informed his Lordship that the branch had made him an honorary life member. His Lordship in a short speech said he had been much surprised with the ceremony. He was pleased to sec such a large gathering of members and to hear that the branch was in such a flourishing position. He had been informed that ten new members had been nominated that evening; he was also pleased to hear that the campaign for new members was progressing so favorably. His Lordship was accompanied by Rev. Father Foley, Adm. (chaplain to the branch), and Rev. Fathers Marlow and Fenton. Fathers Marlow and Fenton were then elected honorary members. Bro. Boyle was elected auditor of the branch. Bro. J. O'Connor being ill in hospital, Bro. J. J. Marlow, jun., was appointed acting secretary. The meeting then closed, his Lordship saying the closing prayers.
