ST. JOSEPH’S CATHEDRAL, DUNEDIN
ORDINATION CEREMONY. His Lordship the Bishop officiated at an ordination ceremony at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on Sunday at the 9 o’clock Mass, when he conferred the Order' of priesthood on Revs. J-Martin and J. Fenton, of the diocese of Dunedin, and Rev. P. O’Meeghan, of the diocese of Christchurch, ecclesiastical students of Holy Cross College, Alosgiel. Very Rev. Father Coffey, Adm., and Revs. D. P. Buckley (Riverton) and W. Buckley, S.M. (St. Patrick’s College, Wellington), assisted the ordinandi, and Rev. C. Morkane (rector) and Rev. E. Andersen/ of Holy Cross College, were assistant 'priests to the Bishop. The ceremony, which was most impressive, was attended by a crowded congregation. His Lordship the Bishop presided at Compline in the evening, and a fine discourse on the 'sacred priesthood, was preached by Very Rev. Father Coffey. There was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from the 11 o’clock Mass, and the day’s ceremonies were concluded with procession and Pontifical Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, his Lordship the Bishop being attended by Rev. Fathers O’Meeghan and Martin as deacon and subdeacon respectively. Very Rev. Father Coffey was master of ceremonies. The newly-ordained priests celebrated their first Mass on Monday. Father Martin at St. Dominic’s Priory chapel, was assisted by Rev. Father Andersen; Messrs. McMahon (2), students of Holy Cross College served at the Mass and the Dominican Nuns’ choir sang the music. At the Offertory, Miss Kathleen Garven sang Niedermeyer’s ; ‘Pater Noster.” Father Fenton, assisted by Rev. Father Delany, celebrated Mass at the chapel of the Sis- • ters of Mercy, South Dunedin; and Father O’Meeghan, assisted by Rev. Father D. P. Buckley, at St. Patrick’s Basilica, South Dunedin. Rev. Father W. Buckley, S.M., of Wellington, was also present in the sanctuary. The music of the Mass at the convent chapel was sung by the choir of Sisters of Mercy, and at the Basilica by the child- „ ren of St. Vincent’s Orphanage.
