. December 5. Rev. Father D. Lordan, from Tburles College, Ireland, arrived by the lonic, and at present is doing duty at the Cathedral. Rev, Father Hyland, Rochdale, Sydney, a fellow-passenger with Father Lorden, was the guest of his Lordship the Bishop during the week. His Lordship Dr. Brodie returned from Auckland during the week, and preached on Sunday evening at the Cathedral. Revs. J. Higgins and J. Spillane are to be ordained priests on Sunday next at the 9 o’clock Mass at the Cathedral. A musical recital, organised by Miss Nellie Harvard, assisted by Miss Kathleen Garven (the distinguished contralto, who gave recitals in Dunedin last week), given a ; _ , few weeks ago in the Theatre Royal for the assistance of the Sisters of Nazareth in their stupendous works of ,charity in this city, realised the splendid* amount of I £2OO 3s. On Saturday, 17th inst., a garden fete will be held in church grounds at Woolston in aid of church and school funds. The ladies of the district are working very f energetically for their various stalls.. The side shows and children’s sports should prove very interesting,, while the & school boys have a novel treat in store with their jazz band. Grounds will be electrically' lighted so as to permit of carrying on the fete after dark. 1 :
A largely attended and enthusiastic meeting was held on Wednesday evening to discuss plans for extending the Lewisham Hospital- by the addition of a public ward to afford accommodation for the sick poor of every denomination. It was unanimously decided to promote a bazaar in the King Edward barracks (if available) during the .Grand National Week, of August next. An executive commit/tee was formed consisting of Mr. W. Clifford (president), Mr. Joseph Hamlet (vice-president), Mr. T. Cahill (hon. secretary), Messrs. P. Selig, Moir, Ballin, G. Hayward, R. Beveridge, T. Holland, and P. J. Amodeo.
