SELF DETERMINATION FOR IRELAND LEAGUE OF NEW ZEALAND

INVERCARGILL. A canvass for members of the Self-Determination for Ireland League of New Zealand has gone on for the past month, with the result that large numbers, representative of all denominations, are now enrolled. A meeting of the committee was held on the 10th inst. to report progress and arrange for the forwarding of funds to the central organisation at Dunedin. The hope was expressed that Ireland’s cause would soon end satisfactorily for the Irish people. Prayers are offered up in the church on Sundays for that intention. . ' 1

NAPIER. f On Sunday evening, July 3, Mr. P. Fraser, M.P. for Wellington Central, gave an address in Everybody’s Theatre, his subject being “The Crucifixion of. Ireland” (writes our own correspondent). The large audience of over 800 people was most appreciative, bursts of applause being frequent during the time — an hour and a half —that the speaker occupied the platform, and there were no hostile interruptions. Mr. Gleeson, the chairman, on introducing Mr. Eraser to his audience, explained that the members of the Irish Self-Determination League had invited Mr. Fraser to put the truth of the Irish question before the people of Napier. At the conclusion of his address Mr. Fraser invited questions and stated that every word he had uttered was supported by facts. If the people were convinced of the justice of the Irish cause, then they should join the Irish Self-Determination League, which was open to all, whatever their nationality or creed. No questions were asked, the audience being quite satisfied with Mr. Fraser’s presentation of facts, and the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the speaker.

AUCKLAND. Advices from Auckland indicate that branches of the Self-Determination for Ireland League have been formed throughout the city area, including Ponsonby, Ellerslie, Otahuhu, and Grey Lynn, also at Dargaville, Hamilton, Avoca, Mt. Roskill, Onehunga, and Ormond. Branches are being formed in numerous other centres immediately. A convention was to open in Auckland yesterday.
