ST. DOMINIC’S COLLEGE, DUNEDIN.
St. Dominic's College opened in March with a record roll number, and': this has been maintained throughout the year, although the attendance, owing- to various epidemics, suffered slightly during the- past two months. The tone of the school has been excellent, and the development of character among our girls, especially in a growing sense -of - responsibility, has been a gratifying feature of the year's work. The various branches of religious, knowledge have received.conspicuous jitter tion, and . great enthusiasm has been displayed >in preparing
for examination in these vital subjects of the curriculum. Steady application has been rewarded by success in the different public examinations. In December, 1919, - four pupils passed the Matriculation Examination, seven were successful in Public Service and Intermediate Examinations, and two in the June Public Service Examination. The tests given by the Govern- . ment inspector in December resulted in nine Proficiency and two Competency Certificates—all the candidates having passed. In the musical examinations of the Associated Board, St. Dominic's more than upheld its reputation. All the students presented were successful, one securing the Licentiate Performer's Diploma (piano), one gaining honors in the advanced, one in the elementary, and two in the primary grade. In the Art Studio some very creditable work has been executed by the students. Nor have the more prosaic house-crafts been neglected. Dressmaking and cookery classes have been carried on side by side with the scientific work of the domestic science classes. Throughout the year keen interest has been taken in games, and this has been stimulated by contests with other schools in which our pupils* have been very successful. The "B" and "C" grades in net ball were undefeated throughout the season, the "B" grade gaining the cup presented for the first time this year. In schools' tennis, senior grade, Shiela Todd won the championship. Very Rev. Father O'Donnell (of Gore) presided at the closing ceremonies and distributed the honors and awards.
