ST. FRANCIS CONVENT. ISLAND BAY, WELLINGTON.
Ihe newly-acquired Catholic Hall, Humber street, Island Bay, Wellington, was well filled for the annual break-up concert of the pupils of the St. Francis Convent School. The programme presented reflected the greatest credit on both the teachers and the children. The school children sang five choral items in costume—" Caller Herrin," "Ten Little Niggers, "Kerry Dance," "Blossoms," and one by the boys. A pianoforte ■ duet was played by Madge and Ethel Dallow, Misses Clark (2), Smith, and Gamble contributed "Ye Banks and Braes" and "Killarney." The junior school children performed a "Butterfly Dance,'' and stepdancing items were given by Misses Evans (2), Smyth, and Beatrice Hoskins, whilst Misses Clarke and Smith contributed solo items, • "Acushla Machree," and "Mister Bear." ;, At the .conclusion of the concert, the Rev.- Father Mark Devoy read the school report, which was most satisfactory, There were 120 children on the school roll, , and the health of ; the children during the year was splendid. Four pupils were presented' for proficiency certificates, and four passed. Father Devoy : paid j a great tribute to the work of the Rev Mother Lennon, the Mother Superior of the school, and on behalf jof the parents and:, children he tendered her their smcerest, gratitude.
