Invercargill
(From our own correspondent.) August 30. The schools’ senior and junior football competitions have just closed. Considerable interest was taken in the final meeting of the Marist seniors and the Waihopai boys. The Marists’ line had not been crossed during the season, and the Waihopai team was out to show that it was crossable. A strong easterly wind favored their chances, but the Marist boys maintained their unbeaten record. The game ended Marist 11, Waihopai nil. The Marist boys have now secured both the senior and the junior banners. Neither team had its line crossed during the season. This is a record of which the boys have reason to be proud. The seniors under 8 stone played 12 matches; won 10, drew 2, scoring 98 points to 3 goal from a mark. The juniors under 6 stone played 12 won 10, drew 2, scoring 161 points to nil. The High and the Technical School boys play in the primary schools’ competition under an 8 stone limit. A special trophy is offered for this contest. The Marists .have annexed this also. The Old Boys have only one more match to play. They have pushed up to third place in their grade. Their many well-wishers are more than satisfied with their very creditable performance. It is the intention of the Old Boys to entertain the young wearers of the green and black, , who have put up such a remarkable record this season.
