THREE HUNDRED YEARS IN THE ARGENTINE.
The diocese of Buenos Aires, Argentine, celebrated its 300th anniversary on Easter Sunday, a beautiful- fall day, as reported by an Argentine paper (says the hew York World). -. A big public procession; in : which representatives of the Government and the city participated, took place in the grand old Cathedral. Pontifical High Mass was celebrated by the* convalescent Archbishop. The Auxiliary-Bishop, Monsignor Alberti, preached a masterful sermon on the duties of clergy and people. / ■'> ■ : „ •• >•;. Pope Paul V. created the diocese of Holy Trinity on - May 30, 1620. The new Bishop, the Spanish Carmelite monk, Pedro de Carranza, arrived when the city was undergoing a siege of the cholera. Therefore the enthronisation ceremonies at the great Cathedral took place September 18, 1621. The saintly and scholarly 1623° P died, after a lingering sickness, August' 15, IDZO.
