ST. MARY’S CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL, AUCKLAND.
• The annual distribution of prizes in connection with St. Mary’s Convent High School took place on Wednesday evening (writes our own correspondent, under date December 12). His Grace Archbishop O’Shea, with his Lordship Bishop Cleary, presided. The school proved too small to accommodate the great number of friends of Sisters and pupils, and many had to be content to gaze through the windows. The very fine programme submitted was:Overture, “Erin,” Misses Thorpe, Montgomery, Hartey, Adye, Williams, Serjeant, Kiely, King, Dyer, Dunne, Ibbotson, R. Nicolas, M. Grevatt; chorus, “Venezia,” senior pupils; address, Miss V. Snedden; harp solo, “Spring Song (Mendelssohn), Miss M. Grevatt; songs, “Pilgrims to Sleepy Town” and “Fairies’ Frolic,” junior pupils; piano quartette, “March No 2” (Schubert), Misses Ryan (2), R. Nicholas, and C. Broughton; vocal trio, La Carita” - (Rossini), Misses Johnston, Kiely, and Dunne; piano duo, “Hymne Triomphale ” (Handel), Misses D. Ryan and B. Poulton, L.T.0.L.; dialogue, “Grannie’s Picture,” Misses R. Nicolas and M. Harris; selection, “Gloria,” from Mozart’s 12th Mass, Misses Maskell and Geaney (pianos) arid . orchestra; French play, “Chez le Photographe; piano duo, “Carnival,” Misses E. Maher and E. Dunne; song, “Rich and Rare,” senior pupils; vocal solo, “I Go My Way Singing,” Miss M. Johnston piano duo, “Vier Albumblatter,” Misses E. Sharp, L.T.C.L., and A. Kennedy, A.T.C.L.; song, “Butterflies,” junior pupils; recitation, “Mercy” (Shakespere), Miss M. Flynn; song, “Happy Japan,” intermediate pupils ? vocal duet, “Night and Morning,” Misses Johnston Snelgar, Ross, Hartley, Nicolas, Parsonage, Kiely, and Sarjeant; tableau, “Bethlehem.” After the distribution of prizes chorus “God Defend New Zealand” was sung. • ' . /
