T.K.—Things have changed so much that it is hard, to say. We are inclined to think that Sinn Fein would even still accept full Colonial Homo Rule. But they will not accept a promise in place of-it. He also hit the nail on the head when he said that "British" Catholics were tainted with Protestantism and private judgment. A Catholic puro and simple accepts the authority of the Church. A "British" Catholic —e.g., Hayden, Cavan-Duffy, and Co. —would have the Government deport a Bishop who tries to teach, them Catholic principles that are too big for their brains. A simple Catholic will like to hear calumny and brutality denounced by the Church; a "British" Catholic will like to hear calumnies spread about enemies, but he will get a fit if told that it is criminal for Britain to spread them about a.
