The Casuist: A Collection of Oases in Moral and Pastoral Theology. Vol. V. Prepared and edited by Rev. J. A. McHugh. O.P. (Linehan, Melbourne; 10s 6d.) It is unnecessary to remind students of moral theology of the utility of a collection of practical cases solved by competent theologians. Between theory and practice there is always a chasm to be bridged, and beginners in moral theology will always derive useful help from a volume that will show them how to apply their knowledge to the concrete. Senior priests who have had long experience also benefit much by the use of a volume of cases. The preceding volumes of The Casuist have made their reputation, and ensured a welcome for the present collection. It is worth noting that the writer acknowledges his indebtedness in the preparation of the book to Father Woywood, whoso studies of the New Code are already known to readers of the American Ecclesiastical Review. The cases are interesting and eminently practical. A considerable number deal with questions of justice and .modern problems such as Crystal-Gazing, Absolution on the Battlefield, and Xe Tcm ere cases are treated fully. In all the volume contains nearly a hundred- cases and covers a large field of doctrine. Of its .utility to the clergy there can be no doubt. Manchester Guardian: Weekly Edition (price 2d). The management of this fine old Liberal paper have sent us for approval a specimen copy of • their first weekly edition. We recommend it strongly.
