We do not sin against the Commandments of God by honoring images. We do not believe that there is in them any divinity or any virtue. We do not pray to them nor put any trust in them. The pagans attributed power to images. We do not. Their use of images was idolatrous. Ours is not. The honor we pay them relates to that which they represent God, Ills Mother, 'His Saints. Our use of images is to place before our eyes a tangible object which fastens our wandering attention on God. Distraction of thought is common to those who wish to pray. Images banish distractions to some extent and fix our thoughts on God. Images are mute sermons. They are essays in stone. They have a nobler place and a grander use than the greatest works of the brush and the camera.
