DIOCESE OF AUCKLAND
(From our own correspondent.) October 25. The mission now being conducted by Father Whelan, C.SS.R., at St. John’s Church, Parnell, is being largely attended, notwithstanding the very inclement weather prevailing since its commencement.
Mrs. M. Geary, of Khyber Pass, Auckland, has been informed that her second son, Edward, has been reported “missing, believed wounded.” Private Geary was educated at the Convent School, Opotiki, by the Sisters of the Mission, and enlisted with the 24th Reinforcements. Sincere sympathy is extended to Mrs. Geary and family, and the hope is expressed that soon good news will be to hand that her son is safe.
The half-yearly meeting of St. Benedict’s Catholic Club took place on Sunday afternoon last, when there was a representative attendance of members. The president (Mr, T, J. Molloy) presided. The report
stated that the average, attendance at the general meetings was 27, which, under existing circumstances, is considered - satisfactory. / During the, term 34 new members were elected.
