he Christian Brothers' Cricket Club has made satisfactory arrangements with the authorities of the Larisbrook sports -round for a pitch for practices and matches. The club officials hope to make the ensuinseason a successful one, and with this object in view are particularly desirous that members attend the practices in full force. A meeting of the congregation of the Sacred Heart Uiurch, North-East Valley, was recently held to make arrangements for the collection of funds to free that portion of St. Joseph's Cathedral parish of existing liabilities and to erect an infant school in connection with the fine parochial school conducted in that suburban district by the Dominican Nuns. _ Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Joseph's Cathedral on Wednesday morning in observance ol the Month's Mind of the late Mother Mary Rose, of the Dominican Order. Father Kaveney was celebrant. Father Ardagh deacon, Rev. Dr. Kelly sub deacon, and Very Rev. J. Coffey, Adm., master of ceremonies. The Solemn Requiem music was rendered by the Dominican Nuns' Choir. On last Thursday evening about 40 relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John Sinclair visited them at their residence, Waitahuna, to congratulate them on the attainment of the silver jubilee of their wedding day. The good wishes of the visitors were substantiated by numerous gifts of silver. An enjoyable time, spent in music, song, speeches, etc., was brought to a close by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." On account of the severe weather of late the annual meeting of the Ophir branch of the Catholic Federation was postponed till September 29. In the meantime a canvass of the district was made, resulting in 97 adults and 23 children being enrolled. It was" decided at the meeting to take up a subscription for the Catholic Field Service Fund, and the usual Federation collectors were asked to canvass the district.
The members of St. Joseph's Red Cross and Patriotic Guild, having undertaken to control the Red Cross sales depot on Saturday, November 9, appeal to their many friends for donations to enable them to make the venture an outstanding success. Goods of any description or offerings in cash for the purchase of saleable articles may be sent to Mrs. A. H. Stone, c/o St. Joseph's Hall, Rattray Street; to Mrs Todd (secretary), lngs Avenue, St, .Clair; or to Mrs. J. J. Marlow, Musselburgh. Although unfortunate in the prevailing weather conditions the garden fete held on last Saturday afternoon in the grounds of St. Dominic's Priory, under the auspices of the Particular Council of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, was successful to the extent of realising over £6O as the nucleus of a fund to establish a Catholic girls' hostel in this city.
