WEDDING BELLS

PURCELL—McCORMICK. A very pretty wedding was celebrated on Wednesday, October 9, at the Church of the Holy Name, Ashburton, the contracting parties being Mr. T. W. Purcell, son of Mrs. Purcell, Bealey Avenue, Christchurch, and Miss Mary McCormick, daughter of Mrs. and the late Daniel McCormick, of Ashburton. The Very Rev. Dean O’Donnell officiated, and celebrated the Nuptial Mass. The altar was effectively adorned, the work of girl friends as a tribute to the bride ; and as the happy couple left the church the “Wedding March” was played by Mrs. D. Crowe. The bride, who was given away by her uncle (Mr. J. P. Buckley), looked charming in a simple frock of ivory crepe-de-chine and tulle veil arranged in mob-cap style, artistically worked by the Sisters of the Missions, Christchurch. She also wore the customary wreath of orange blossoms, and carried a sheaf of arum lilies with white satin streamers. The bridesmaid (Miss T. McCormick) ore a frock of white crepe-de-chine and hat to match. She also carried a sheaf of lilies. Mr. D. McCormick (brother of the bride) was best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s mother. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a handsome gold brooch, and to the bridesmaid, a cameo ring. The bride’s present to the bridegroom \yas a silver shaving outfit. The happy couple, ho were the recipients of numerous valuable presents, including many cheques, left for the south, where the honeymoon is to be spent. The bride travelled in a nigger brown costume with hat to match.
