(From our own correspondent.) September 4. The new church at Takaka will be opened by his Grace Archbishop O'Shea on Sunday, 15th inst. Much enthusiasm is being shown by the Catholics of the district, who are making a great effort to liquidate the remaining debt. * The scow Magic, with a first consignment of 60 tons of Sandy Bay marble for the new church at Richmond, arrived last week. The farmers of the Waimea carted the marble to the site in record time, and already Mr. W. E. Wilkes has commenced work on the foundations. Richmond has now a population of 900, but up to the present the Waimea West church has had to serve the Catholics of the township. The Orphanage fund committee will meet for the last time next week, when a final payment to the Sisters of the Mission will be passed. The first payment amounted to £4OO. The committee is especially grateful for recent help from the Reef ton branch of the Catholic Federation amounting to £35 3s 6d, the largest outside contribution received. , «
