Invercargill
(From our own correspondent.) „ . May 6. Owing to the boisterous weather prevailing on Sunday the procession of the Blessed Sacrament in the evening was postponed until next week. The Hibernians in regalia and the Children of Mary, together with the school children, will take part. The Hibernian Literary and Debating Club has been reformed, and was opened with a debate on the national system of education versus denominational schools. Bro. T. Pound led the affirmative side and Bro. J. J. Furlong championed denominationalism. At the next meeting (May 14) the Very Rev. Dean Burke, V.F., will deliver a lecture on an important subject, and thisr announcement should be sufficient to ensure a large attendance. At the last meeting of the Hibernian Society the Very Rev. Dean Burke and Bro. Martin Brogan became life honorary members. There must be many Catholic men who wish the society well, and it may be interesting to those who are over the age to qualify for benefit membership to know that by a payment of .£3 3s they may become life honorary members. During the last two years at least a dozen such men have shown their practical sympathy with the local branch of the society by becoming life honorary members, and now that the distinguished Dean has been added to the number it is hoped that others will follow. From the highly interesting and instructive addresses of the Dean at the meetings members will derive considerable benefit.
