TRUTH VERSUS SCURRILITY.
To the Editor. f —To you lam only a heretic, an unknown one at that; but to me you are a brave 'man telling the truth. Your articles in the Tablet are as an intellectual bomb in this mentally, stagnant place. That a man of the type of “Givis” should have had such sway as he has is but proof of the moral and mental condition of the community. The man simply reeks of and revels in blood. No matter how foul his slanders, or scurrilous his language, he comfortably hides himself behind his patriotism. With this guardian ever at his side there is no telling to what depths he may not sink or what injury he may not try to do others. For a sane or liberal or manly thought, save me from “Civis’s” column in the O.D.T. —I am, etc., R. S. Ilott. Dunedin, February 27.
