Maurice Spillane, ecclesiastical students of the seminary. , ,- There was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in St, Joseph's Cathedral from the 11 o'clock Mass on last Sunday. In the evening his Lordship Bishop Verdon presided m the sanctuary and officiated at Compline. His Lordship Dr. Brodie (Bishop of Christchurch) occupied the pulpit, and gave a powerful discourse on -r.. s love for mankind, having special reference to His Divine Presence in the Most Adorable Sacrament ot the Eucharist, There was a crowded congregation His Lordship Bishop Verdon bore the Sacred Host in the subsequent procession, and at the conclusion officiated at Pontifical Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, attended by the Rev. Fathers Lynch and Ardagh. '.■ L The devotion .of; the Forty Hours' Adoration was commenced :in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Mosgiel, on Friday morning, November 23. High Mass of Exposition was celebrated by the Rev. Father Liston, the .occasional sermon in . the * evening being

preached by the Rev. Father Kaveney. The celebrant of the Mass on the following morning was the Rev. Father Collins, and in the evening the Rev. Father Ardagh preached. At the early Mass on Sunday morning, November 25, celebrated by the Rev: Father Morkane, there was a general Communion of the parishioners. At the 10.30 o'clock Mass and in the afternoon and evening there were large congregations. At Mass on the Friday and Saturday mornings and Sunday evening the students' choir of Holy Cross College sang the incidental music. The solemnity was closed on the Sunday evening with a procession of the Blessed Sacrament (in which the students of Holy Cross College and the parish societies participated) and Benediction. Adoration was well maintained throughout. CHRISTIAN BROTHERS' SCHOOL, DUNEDIN: ; FINE SPORTS RECORD. In the recent schools' championship sports conducted by the Caledonian Society of Otago, the boys of the Christian Brothers' School put up a remarkably fine record. The points for the Championship Shield were as follows:—Christian Brothers, 1 (40 points) ; High Street School, 2 (17 points) ; George Street School, 3 (13 points) ; Kaikorai School, 4 (5 points) ; Albany Street and Normal, 2 points each; Macandrew Road and Arthur Street Schools, 1 point each. 50yds Sack Race (under 12).—8. O'Reilly 1, C. Meade 2. Obstacle Race (under 15). — Murfitt 3. The Tug-of-War was also won by the school. L. McAllen was 3rd in the 220yds Secondary Schools' Scratch Race, and 2nd in the 440yds. As will be seen, the Brothers' boys scored in every department of sport. R. McCaughan deserves special mention for his fine long jump of 16ft, his great win in the 220yds in 28 4-ssec, and his splendid lap in the relay race. S. Ebzery ran a great race in the 440yds, was just beaten on the tape in the 100yds Championship, and rivalled McCaughan, in his relay lap. J. Arnold walked the half mile in 4min.9 l-ssec, followed closely by C. Marshall. In the junior events D. Sullivan and B. O'Reilly showed themselves to be possessed of a nice turn of speed. The tug-of-war team covered themselves with glory by winning from Albany Street after a most strenuous pull.' The officials of the Caledonian Society deserve every praise for the highly efficient manner in which the whole sports gathering was conducted. ' ; ST. PATRICK'S BASILICA, SOUTH DUNEDIN. At St. Patrick's Basilica, South Dunedin, on last Sunday afternoon his Lordship Dr. Brodie, Bishop of Christchurch, attended by the Rev. Fathers Delany (pastor) and Graham, administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 131 children (104 girls and 27 boys) and 17 adults, in the presence of a very large congregation. His Lordship, after questioning the candidates at some length on their knowledge of Christian doctrine, expressed himself as being delighted at the manner inij which difficult -t questions had been so unhesitatingly j answered. He paid a warm tribute to the religious training, arid comprehensive tuition r imparted by the good priests and Sisters of St. Patrick's parish, and after explaining the nature and effects of the Sacrament, he was" ; about to ; impart, exhorted the candidates 1 to remember i ever the day of their Confirmation, urging

meanwhile upon them the necessity of not relaxing their study of religious knowledge. After administering Confirmation, his Lordship in impressive terms besought a lifelong observance of the essentials implied by the reception of that Sacrament— of the Holy Mass, love of the Blessed Sacrament, and a sincere devotion to the duty of morning and evening prayer. The candidates then made a general profession of faith, after which Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was given by his Lordship the Bishop, attended by the Rev. Fathers Delany and Graham, The choir rendered the incidental music in a most efficient manner.
