OBITUARY
MR. JOHN FRANCIS DELANEY, PALMERSTON NORTH. j A well-known and highly respected resident of Palmerston North, in the person of Mr. John Francis ' Delaney, passed away on September 24, at the age of 4jp| 66 years (writes a correspondent) - . Deceased, who was if a native of Borris-in-Ossory, Queens County, Ireland, arrived at Timaru about 45 years ago, where he followed the occupation of builder and contractor. He -44 f was a member of the Amalgamated Society of Carpen--ill ters and Joiners since its inception, and of the Timaru Borough Council for a number of years. About 20 44^ years . ago deceased moved to Wellington, where he 4is| resided six years. In 1903 he came to Palmerston p| North and resided there up to the time of his death. Deceased had been ailing a number of years, and was quite prepared for the end, which came peacefully. He 41 was attended by the Rev. Father McManus, who ad- ' •£; ministered the last rites of Holy Church. He leaves a ffl widow and grown-up family of four sons and two daughters, consisting of Messrs. J. and F. Delaney (Wellington), G. Delaney (Auckland, recently invalided 4 from the front), Joseph Delaney (superintendent in the 4j Blue Funnel Shipping Company, Glasgow, Scotland), Mrs. F. Dorset (Opaki), and Miss Delaney (Palmerston 4 North). R.l.P. ' '9 MRS. ANNE BURK, OAMARU. ;;S Under date October 29, our Oamaru correspondent '. V4fl writes:—There passed peacefully to her eternal reward yesterday morning a kindly and generous soul in the person of Mrs. Anne Burk, widow of Mr. John Burk, of Dunedin, and sister of Mr. Patrick McGrath, of Tees 4S Street, Oamaru, at the age of 76 years. Mrs. Burk was born at Keadue, County Roscommon, Ireland, and was a true type of the warm-hearted daughter of Erin, ever ready to help others, and of a lively and humorous 4|| disposition. Possessed of a robust constitution, the deceased lady enjoyed excellent health until very re- 4|ii cently, and was always a most devout and pious Oath-; :Si|S olic, even in her failing strength walking a considerable ;||| distance to Mass. She was attended during her last - 3 illness by Rev. Fathers O’Connell and Foley, and died - -5 fortified by all the rites of Holy Church. The interment will take place at Dunedin.— . ■
