The private secretary of Cardinal Mercier has been arrested by the Germans on account of what he said in a sermon, delivered at Malines, on “Christian Charity.” In the course.of that address the patriotic priest related an event which took place in 1914. He divulged the . generally unknown fact that in that year 80* fathers of families had been condemned to be shot by the Germans.
