BOOK NOTICE

Short Bible History for Schools. By the Rev. Martin Healy (M. H. Gill and Son, Ltd., Dublin). In four parts, each 4d nett. We have frequently been asked to recommend a Bible History for our schools. Here at last is one which should meet the approval of our Catholic teachers. Parts I. and 11. deal with the Old Testament parts 111. and IV. with the life of our Lord. Each part contains about a hundred pages. The lessons are short and complete, and the text is admirably illustrated with reproductions of the great masterpieces of Christian art. In the preface, Archbishop Healy says: “We have no doubt this little book will be warmly welcomed and widely read. The language is simple, the style clear, and the narrative easy and attractive. He has succeeded in putting the most important points of the Bible story in a striking way, which arrests the attention of the juvenile reader without weighting either his memory or intelligence. What is learned in this way in early life is never forgotten, and exercises in after years an enduring influence for good which it is difficult to over-estimate. We heartily commend the use of this little book in our primary schools, and recommend its adoption by the teachers for their Christian doctrine classes. We have been assured by a competent theologian, who has carefully examined it, that the work is a faithful and accurate sketch of the Sacred Narrative, sound in doctrine, and edifying in tone and language.” The little books may be ordered through our Catholic booksellers, or direct from Gill’s, O’Connell street, Dublin.
