ST. MARY'S CONVENT, PONSONBY, AUCKLAND
KECEPTION AND PROFESSION. An interesting ceremony took place on Monday, March 19, at St. Mary's Convent, Ponsonby. During the Mass, which was celebrated by the Right Rev. Mgr. Mahoney (Diocesan Administrator), who officiated in the absence of his Lordship Dr. Cleary, three young ladies took their vows and were admitted as professed members of the Sisterhood, and two received the white veil and habit of the Order of Mercy. The names of those professed are—Sister M. Aidan O'Connor (Wexford), Sister M. Borromeo Halpin (Drogheda), Sister M. Canice Murphy (Wexford), and those received were— Miss Alice Clowry, Bagenalstown (in religion, Sister M. Cecilia), and Miss Mary Flanagan, King's County, Ireland (in religion, Sister M. Emmanuel). The sermon was eloquently preached by Monsignor Mahoney, and the music incidental to the ceremony was interpreted by the Sisters in a devotional manner. The clergy present were—Very Rev. Chancellor Holbrook, Very Rev. F. Murphy, Very Rev. Fathers Furlong and Carran, and Rev. Fathers O'Malley, Taylor, and O'Flynn. The clergy and relatives of the newly-professed were entertained to breakfast after the ceremony in the convent by the Rev. Mother and the community.
