(From our own correspondent.)

\ I.' I U LIL LA A L-» VY U, V/ VJ t I VOpUilUOll U. J The ladies of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, assisted by their friends, have been engaged for a long time making comforts for the Aotea Convalescent Home. The work is now completed and will be on view on Thursday. The fortnightly meeting of the 11.A.C.8. Society took place last Wednesday, Bro. J. Stratford presiding. Satisfactory business was shown with the various funds. The trustees were empowered to spend .£240 in the purchase of war loan certificates, it being looked upon as a perfectly safe investment. At St. Mary’s Church last Sunday evening a sacred concert, given by the choir of St. Mary’s, proved to be a rare musical treat. The church was crowded. Mrs. C. I. Spillane (conductor), ably assisted by Mr. J. Kersley at the organ, with a small orchestra consisting of Messrs. »Gilby, Scully, and Upton, ,and Miss Jensen, reached a high standard of excellence. The soloists were Mrs. Labatt, Misses B. and C. McLean, A. Wood, and M. Stanaway, and Messrs. Greening and Wadinan. The proceeds (£l6 9s) will be devoted to the Aotea Convalescent Home.
