The deceased, who had attained the age of 75 years, had enjoyed robust health up to the last, being seized on Thursday morning with an illness which terminated fatally at half-past nine the same evening. The late Mrs. Deere arrived in Greymouth from Ireland in 1879, and had resided there continuously ever since, and was well and popularly Known from one end ‘of the Coast to the other. She was a native of Doon, County Limerick, and was endowed with all those charming qualities for which the daughters of Erin are noted. She was attended in her last moments by the Rev. Father La Croix, and passed peacefully away in the presence of the members of her family. She leaves three daughters, one of whom is Mrs. N. S. Dew, of Glenhope, and three sons to mourn the loss of a devoted mother whose death leaves a void which will be hard to fill. To the sorrowing relatives will be extended the sincere sympathy of all in their sad hour of trial and affliction. The funeral took place on Saturday, and the large and representative gathering bore eloquent testimony to the esteem in which the deceased lady was held, large ciowds coming from the Grey Valley and surrounding distiicts to pay a last tribute of respect to the remains of one of the oldest pioneers of the West Coast. Members of the Greymouth Fire Brigade (of whom deceased's sons are members) acted as pall-bearers. The Very Rev. Dean Carew officiated at St. Patrick’s Church and at the graveside.—R.l.P.
