(From our own correspondent.) August 4. The newly formed committee of the local branch of the Catholic Federation set about the enrolling of members last Sunday, in a most systematic manner, having a number of tables arranged outside of the church, where members of the committee were busily engaged taking the names, while several ladies mingled with the congregation, and piloted the shy and halfhearted members to a table. The result was that, for just the one Sunday's operations, the magnificent and highly gratifying number of 500 had been enrolled. The enrolling is to continue next Sunday and Sundays following. The schools are also to be visited, so that when the committee have finished, they will be able to say that there is not one ' shirker' in the parish. The committee of the Federation are also organising a concert in aid of the funds, so that they may be able to render assistance to chaplains at the military training camps. In view of the fact that the war relief association has refused assistance to the chaplain at the Tauherehikau Camp, although a grant of £250 had been made to another body for similar purposes, a sub-committee has been formed, and is combining with a sub-committee from Hastings, for the purpose of approaching the War Relief Association again, when it is hoped they will have better success. Rev. Father Ainsworth, S.M., continued his course of sermons on- the True Church last Sunday evening, when he again gave a very eloquent discourse. There was a large congregation. I regret to record the death of Mrs. Josephine Smith, wife of Mr. Frank Smith, who passed away on last Thursday. During her illness she was attended by Rev. Father Ainsworth, S.M., who administered the last rites of the Church. A Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul was celebrated by Rev. Father Ainsworth, S.M., on last Saturday morning, the remains being interred in the afternoon. —R.I.P.
