(From our own correspondent.) July 14. A lecture dealing with Lourdes, its spring, and miracles, was given by the Very Rev. Dr. Kennedy, Rector of St. Patrick’s College, in the Morven Hall, on Thursday, July 13. The lecturer visited Lourdes in 1914, and was present at the Eucharistic Congress. As for the denial of miracles on the part of certain scientists of the day, the lecturer compared it to the denial of meteors on the part of certain scientists of the 17th century. Miracles, like meteors, are impossible, because they do not agree with the pet theories of these men. Musical items—vocal and instrumental—were contributed, the singers being Miss Brosnahan, Miss K. Cooney, Mr. Leonard, and Mr. Roach. Dr. Kennedy played a ’cello solo. Miss Delahunt played most of the accompaniments and also a piano solo. A vote of thanks to the lecturer was moved by Mr. E. Costello, and was carried with hearty applause. Supper was provided by the ladies of Morven on the usual liberal scale. The proceeds of the entertainment will be devoted to the purchase of furniture for the new convent and school, which are in course of erection in the Morven township. Judging by the rapid progress made by the contractors, the buildings will be finished before the expiration of the specified time.
