Christchurch North

May 22. His Grace Archbishop Redwood arrived from Dunedin on Saturday, and is the guest of the Very Rev. Dean Regnault, S.M., at St. Mary’s Presbytery. His Grace celebrated the seven o’clock Mass on Sunday, and in the evening preached an eloquent sermon on the Real Presence to a large congregation. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament took place during the day. In the evening there was the usual procession, followed by Benediction, at which his Grace officiated. The popularity of the weekly entertainments at the Catholic Girls’ Club was evidenced by the large number who attended on Wednesday evening last to hear the lecture, delivered by the Very Rev. Dean Regnault, S.M., on his travels and experiences in France at the outbreak of the war. The Dean in his remarks dwelt on the great work done by the women of France, who realised what the war meant and the great sacrifices they willingly made to help their country in its time of peril. At the conclusion all present showed , JL

their appreciation of the Very Rev. Dean’s discourse by hearty applause. A dainty supper was served by the matron (Mrs. Harley). Wednesday evening. May 31, is set aside for a ‘ Dickens evening ’ by Mr. Dobbin, which will prove instructive as well as interesting.
