Rev. Father Kavanagh - was celebrant. ; Rev. Father Corcoran deacon, Rev. Captain-Chaplain Rin- - kead subdeacon, and Very Rev. Father Coffey, Adm., master of ceremonies. There was air immense congregation, among those present being several returned - soldiers. A sermon dealing with the subject of the day’s commemoration was preached by the Very Rev .".Father . His Lordship- Bishop Verdon was celebrant. Rev. Captain-Chaplain Kinkead, of the hospital ship Maheno, being assistant priest. Rev. Father Ravanagh deacon, Rev. Mr. Minogue (Holy Cross College) subdeacon, and Very Rev. Father Coffey, Adm., master of ceremonies. The sermon on the day’s festival was preached' by the Very : Rev. Father Coffey. The music, ..Mozart’s Second Mass, was -splendidly rendered by the choir, and Gounod’s ‘ Ave Maria was beautifully.’ sung during the Offertory. Signor Squarise conducted and Mr. A. Vallis presided l at • the organ. At the early Masses, both at the Cathedral and ,at the suburban churches of the parish, unusually 'large numbers approached the Holy Table. His Lordship the presided at Vespers, and gave Solemn Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. A sermon on the ‘Resurrection was preached by. the Rev. Father; Rav- _ anagh. After Vespers the members of:the. choir were entertained in St. Joseph’s Hall. ’ Very Rev.. Father Coffey, Adm. who presided, congratulated . them on behalf of his Lordship the Bishop and himself on the manner in which they had h rendered the music in con- . nection , with the day’s ceremonies, thanked them for their past services, and exhorted them to be regular and punctual at the practices and strive to increase the roll of members. :; Mr. H. The music was sung by the Dominican Nuns. -At the Office of Tenebrse on the evenings of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the * Miserere ’ and. ‘Benedictus’ were sung by the Holy Cross College and Christian Brothers’ Boys’ Choirs. : The sermon on, the- ‘ Blessed Eucharist ’. on Holy Thursday, evening was preached by the Very Rev. Dean - Burke (Invercargill), that on the ‘Passion’ on Good Friday morning by the Rev. Father Buckley (Riversdale), and that on the ‘ Seven Dolors of the Blessed Virgin Mary’ on Good Friday evening by the Rev. Father O’Connell (Oamaru) .
