The deceased, was 27 years : of-age, and had been a patient sufferer for years, during which time she was regularly visited by the local clergy, and died fortified by the rites of the Church. A Requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, Pleasant Point, on Wednesday ? last -by Rev. Father Kerley, S.M., when the church was crowded. The funeral .took place immediately afterwards, and the respect in which the deceased was held was evidenced s by the large number of sympathisers present, many of whom had come long distances.P. Another whole-hearted worker in Catholic causes has left Ashburton to take up residence in the North Island—Mrs. W.Soal. Her many friends took the opportunity of making her a presentation on the occasion of her departure. The local Hibernian Society claim credit—and rightly sofor every eligible member for service with the New Zealand Reinforcements having responded to the call. This fact was certainly noticeable on the occasion of the quarterly Communion (March 19), when the numbers present were considerably 'short of the usual attendance. Rev. Dr.. Kennedy, who' was celebrant of the Mass, complimented the society on the number present, which spoke well for the practical faith of the members. After Mass the members were entertained at breakfast by. the Rev. Dr. Kennedy. On the motion of the president (Brb. J. The annual Communion of the members of the Hibernian Society took place at the 9 o'clock Mass on Sunday, . March 19, when there was a large muster of members in regalia. The Rev. Father Cahill congratulated the members on the large gathering, and touched on some of the advantages of .the society. He urged the young men of the congregation to : join the ; branch. After Mass, at the kind invitation of the Rev. Father Cahill, the members assembled at the presbytery, where they did justice to : an '■; excellent breakfast,, at which the branch president (Bro. T. Curran) presided. At the conclusion. of the ; breakfast.a hearty ; vote,of ; thanks was unanimously accorded:- to the ladies : who assisted, and also the Rev.
