Methven
(From an occasional correspondent.) The feast of the Apostle of Ireland was celebrated in the usual manner ab Methven. Mass was said at 9 a.m., and the large congregation joined in the singing of Hail, glorious St. Patrick,' 'Faith of our fathers,' and other hymns. , In the evening the usual national concert was given in the Town Hall, which was crowded with an appreciative audience. The programme was as follows:Part I. —Opening chorus, ' God save Ireland '; orchestra, ' Wearing of the green ' (violins Molly and . Rufine McKendry and Denis and Frank McKendry and Jas. McKay; mandonlin, Kitty McKendry) ; fan folk, junior pupils; song, ' Molly Bawn', Mrs. John Ryan; sailors' hornpipe, Patricia and Thecla McKendry and Bertha Clark ; song, ' Eileen Alannah,' Mr F. Pott'; ' Come, buy my flowers,' pupils; song, ' When the boys come home,' Mr. C. Henry; comic song, 'Captain Jinks,' Frank McKendry; song and dance, Gipsies,' senior pupils. Taking the cenr sus '—Mrs. Touchwood, Dora McKay ; inquisitor, James McKay. Part 11. Violin solo, ' Killarney,' Miss R. McKendry; comic duet, 'Polly Hopkins,' Cardy McKendry and Frank McKendry; song, 'The dear little shamrock,' Mrs. John Ryan vocal duet, 'Battle song,' the Misses Middleton; darkey song, boys; song, ' Queen of the earth,' Mr. F. Poff; 'Gleaners,' senior pupils song, 'Off to Philadelphia,' Mr. John.H. McKendry; 'Piccaninnies,' junior pupils. ' The doctor's assistant' Dr. Diaculum, Arthur O'Reilly; Joshua (his apprentice), Frank McKendry; Mr. Simpson, Reg. Compton ; policeman, Cardy McKendry. 'God save the King.' Every item was enthusiastically applauded, and numerous encores - were demanded. During the interval, a beautifully , carved occasional table and a handsomely framed picture, which were presented to the local branch of the Red Cross Society by Rev. Dr. Kennedy, were auctioned. As a result of the bidding the Red Cross Fund receives the sum of £34.
