DIOCESE OF DUNEDIN

.:;■■. The Rev. Captain-Chaplain P. . J. O'Neill left by the second express on Tuesday for Wellington, where he will join the 11th Reinforcements, which is to proceed shortly to Egypt. He was seen off at the railway station by the Very Rev. Father .Coffey, Adm,, and others of the local clergy. A week's mission for the children was opened in St. Patrick's Basilica, South Dunedin, on Sunday, by the Rev. Father Mageean, C.SS.R. The mission for the adults of the parish, which will be conducted by the Rev. Fathers Mangan and Mageean, C.SS.R., will open on next Sunday. At St. Dominic's Priory on St. Patrick's Day, the 17th inst., Miss Mary Duggan, of Coolough, County Galway, Ireland, received ,the holy habit of the Dominican Order at the hands of his Lordship the Bishop, assisted by the Very Rev. Father Coffey, Adm. The newly-received Sister will be known in religion as Sister Mary Nicholas. ' There are few parents who have shown their patriotism in a more practical manner than Mr. and Mrs. Moroney, of Hart street, Roslyn, who have given their four eldest sons to the defence of their King and Country. Two (Messrs. Denis and Joseph) are already in Egypt, and Messrs. James and Edward are now in camp preparing to leave for the front with the next contingent. The Catholics of Mornington, who, during the past three years, have had to assist at Mass on Sundays in various halls in the district, will very soon have a church-hall of their own. This is in course of erection on a site which was purchased some time ago, and will, it is expected, be ready for blessing and opening on the second Sunday after Easter. The material used in the work is the best portion of the Christian Brothers' old school. The building will also be used as a Sunday school, and probably later on as a day school for the younger children of the district. His Lordship Bishop Brodie, who is expected to visit Dunedin about that time, will probably assist at the opening ceremony.

The priests from various parts of the diocese, Sir Joseph Ward, and a large gathering of ladies and gentlemen, assembled at the ship's side, and took an affectionate farewell of the Bishop, who' appeared in excellent spirits. From the deck of the liner he waved his good-byes until out of sight. > Bishop Cleary intends on arrival at New York to go thence to Naples direct, and from there to Rome. He expects to return'to Auckland in December next. If opportunity be afforded him, his Lordship intends to visit the western, war front. His Lordship cabled from Suva to the Bight Rev. Mgr. Mahonev, V.G., to the effect that he was rapidly improving in health and enioying the trio. This news gave intense pleasure in Auckland, and "will find a re-echo throughout the Dominion.
